Joseph Wayne Smith, 34, of Livingston

Murder on Scenic Loop, SCENIC LOOP, June 14, 2021 - At 5:39 am on June 14, 2021, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, received a 911 transfer from San Jacinto County dispatch. Polk County Dispatch was informed there was an open line with someone saying they need help that someone had been shot. Deputies arrived on scene in the 300 block of Stevens Lane and discovered that an individual at that location had been shot. Allegiance Ambulance Service was summoned to the scene and confirmed the subject had died from his injuries. Justice of the Peace Pct. 4, Jamie Richardson, arrived on scene and performed the inquest. The victim was identified as 54-year-old, Todd Wilkinson. Wilkinson’s body was transported to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office for a forensic autopsy to be performed, by order of Judge Richardson.

While interviewing witnesses, a suspect was identified, and at 6:37am, 34 year-old, Joseph Wayne Smith was detained and later charged and booked into the Polk County Jail for 1st degree Murder. Sheriff Lyons, stated that the hard working professionals at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were able bring the suspect into custody without further incident.

In December of 2018, Joseph Smith was arrested on drugs and firearms charges...
