Clifton James Greenup, 61, of Livingston

Polk County Jail Employee Arrested for Intoxication (on the job) and Possession, LIVINGSTON, November 3, 2025 - On November 1st, 2025 an incident occurred at the Polk County Jail which led to the arrest of a new jail employee, 61 year old, Clifton Greenup. Greenup was taken into custody on charges of public intoxication and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, a felony offense.

While on duty, other staff members became concerned about Greenup’s condition and contacted deputies, who conducted field sobriety test on site. Greenup was transported to the emergency room for evaluation due to concerns that a medical condition, such as diabetes, might be contributing to his symptoms, after being medically cleared, he was booked into the Polk County Jail.

Sheriff Lyons emphasized his continued commitment to holding all employees accountable for their actions and maintaining professional standards in the service of Polk County residents. He also noted that Greenup was currently on OJT, on the job training and was never left alone unsupervised with inmates during his employment at the jail.
