US-59 North near Windham Ranch Road, 12:30 pm, 09/09/2025
18 Wheeler Hauling Produce Burns, GOODRICH, September 9, 2025 - At approximately 12:30 pm on September 9, 2025, an 18 wheeler driven by Alberto Cruz Orozco, 48, of Mission, was north-bound on US-59 in Goodrich. According to Orozco, he smelled smoke in his cab, then he saw smoke coming from under the hood of his semi. Orozco pulled to the right shoulder near Windham Ranch Road. Within a couple of minutes his rig was engulfed in flames. Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene along with Troopers Sean Barnes, Simon Mijares, and Corporal Ramey Bass. Additionally, Deputy Perk Ostrawich with The Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the scene. Orozco was not injured during the incident. Orozco was a hauling a full load of what appeared to be various fresh produce. The entire north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Smith Towing was summoned to clean up the mess.
