LESLIE JONES BURKS for POLK COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR
My name is Leslie Jones Burks. I am seeking the office of Polk County Tax Assessor-Collector. I have worked for the Polk County Tax Office for over twenty years. I understand all of the workings of the of the tax office because of the experience that I have accrued in my twenty years of employment. I have not only worked in the main office in Livingston, but also in a branch office in Corrigan. After returning to the Livingston office, I have been serving as a Chief Deputy Clerk for fourteen years. I am certified with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) as an Assessor-Collector.
In the office of Tax Assessor we have many duties. We collect taxes for the many entities of the county including the county, schools, and cities. We register and title automobiles and boats. We handle liquor license for the county. Our office also handles voter registration for the county. Our office collects more money than any other office within the county. I served two terms on the Corrigan City Council and enjoyed serving my community very much. I am also an active member in the Livingston Pilot Club. I am treasurer for the Livingston VFW Ladies Auxiliary. I am the daughter of Calvin and Nelda Jones of Seven Oaks. I am married to Sean Burks of Corrigan and have two wonderful children Kathryn and Calvin. I graduated from Corrigan-Camden High School where Kathryn graduated and Calvin still attends. I have strong ties to the county as a whole from the far reaches of the north to the far south. I love to call Polk County home. I would appreciate everyone’s support during this time. I feel that I have worked hard during my twenty year tenure and would like to try and excel further. I am asking for your vote in the upcoming Republican primary. Thank You, Leslie
