Driver Allegedly Falls Asleep, Drives Pickup Into Woods, NEW WILLARD, November 21, 2017 - Shortly after midnight on November 21, 2017, a silver 2013 GMC Sierra, driven by Kayla Salee Callison, 18, of Lufkin, was north-bound on US-59 (about half a mile south of FM-942).  Callison allegedly fell asleep.  Her pickup drifted into the south-bound lanes.  A south-bound 18 wheeler narrowly missed Callison's vehicle.  Her vehicle continued over the south-bound lanes, off the pavement, down an embankment, and into the woods.  Callison climbed out of her vehicle and made her way to the embankment where she collapsed.  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Sergeant Craig Taylor, and Deputies Teddy Simms and Michael McDuffie with the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  Trooper Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate.  Callison was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.  No citations were issued.  A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Callison's vehicle and it will be stored at Pollock's Body Shop in Livingston.
