Driver Killed in Rollover Accident, BARNUM, September 15, 2023 - Shortly before 8 am on September 15, 2023, a passer by driving on FM-287 East spotted a crashed pickup about five miles east of Corrigan.  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Roper Ellison with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Sean Barnes and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway.  The crash is estimated to have occurred sometime before daylight hours when a white 2006 Chevy pickup was west-bound on FM-287 East.  The pickup left the pavement to the right, the driver, Jeremy Wallace Cretsinger, 46, of Chester, over corrected to the left, left the pavement again to the left, and rolled.  During the rollover, the pickup jumped a drainage area and Cretsinger was ejected from the truck.  Cretsinger was killed on impact.  One lane of traffic on 287 was blocked during investigation and cleanup.  Justice of the Peace, Robert "Dooley" Johnson filed an inquest at the scene.  A first-call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported Cretsinger from the scene.  Cretsinger's pickup was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan.  This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
