18 Wheeler vs SUV, SUV Driver Arrested for DWI, LEGGETT, July 19, 2023 - At approximately 8:25 pm on July 19, 2023, an 18 wheeler, driven by Shawn Thomas, 39, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was south-bound on US-59. Thomas was driving a tanker filled with contaminated water from East Palestine Ohio. The water was being transported to Deer Park. As Thomas was passing through Leggett, a north-bound white 2014 Kia Sorento, driven by Joseph Earl Glarborg, 45, of Gladewater drifted into the south-bound lanes of 59. Glarborg allegedly fell asleep. His vehicle slammed into the side of Thomas' 18 wheeler. The impact caused Glarborg's car slide into a ditch on the south-bound side. Thomas' 18 wheeler came to rest on the road. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Constable Mike Nettles, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Amazingly, there were no injuries. Corporal Bass administered a field sobriety test on Glarborg and placed him under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Traffic on both sides of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Glarborg's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.
