U-Haul Wrecks on 146, SCHWAB CITY, July 4, 2009 - At approximately 10 pm on July 3, 2009 a 2008 28 ft. U-Haul driven by Mario Guadalupe Pequeno, 59, of Baytown, was north-bound on US-146 in Schwab City when a front tire blew on causing Pequeno to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road to the right, and jumped 2 culverts before if finally came to rest upright on the right side of 146. Passers by came upon the wrecked vehicle to find Pequeno in sitting still in the driver's seat not moving. A call was placed to the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Americare was dispatched to the scene along with DPS Trooper Ramey Bass. Pequeno was carefully removed from his vehicle and treated by Americare at the scene, then transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries. The U-Haul sustained major damage on the front end, and the rear axel was busted. Traffic was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. Pequeno will be issued a citation for driving with a suspended driver's license. A heavy duty wrecker from Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan was sent for to recover the immobilized U-Haul. The scene was cleared before midnight.
