Names Released from 190 East Fatal Crash, ALABAMA COUSHATTA COUNTRY, March 25, 2025 - The names of the drivers who were involved in a fatal crash on US-190 East shortly after 1 pm on March 24, 2025 have been released. At approximately 1:05 pm Virgil Woodard, 58, of Warren was east-bound on 190 East when a west-bound red 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Shawanna Mell, 36, of Apple Springs, crossed the center line. Woodard cut right to avoid a collision but the vehicles impacted in a glancing blow. Sadly, Shawna Mell was deceased at the scene. This accident remains under investigation by The Texas Highway Patrol.

Car vs 18 Wheeler Proves Fatal, ALABAMA COUSHATTA COUNTRY, March 24, 2025 - At approximately 1:05 pm on March 24, 2025, the driver of an 18 wheeler logging truck was east-bound on US-190 East. For an unknown reason at this time, the driver of a red west-bound 2007 Toyota Camry allegedly crossed the center line into the east-bound lane. The driver of the logging truck cut right to avoid but it wasn't enough and the vehicles collided with a glancing head on collision. The impact sent the 18 wheeler off the pavement to the right where it jack-knifed into the grass. The Toyota slid to the right on the west-bound side and came to rest on the shoulder facing east. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Alabama Coushatta Volunteer Fire Department, Alabama Coushatta Police Department, and Corporal Ramey Bass with The Texas Highway Patrol. Bass was soon joined by other Polk County Troopers. Sadly, the driver of the Toyota was killed. The driver of the 18 wheeler was physically okay. Justice of the Peace, Terri Mayer filed an inquest at the scene. Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan was summoned to recover the disabled 18 wheeler while LakeView Wrecker out of Livingston recovered the Toyota. The names of the drivers have not yet been released.
