Worker Flown from Road Construction Accident, ALABAMA COUSHATTA COUNTRY, February 16, 2026 - At approximately 2:35 pm on February 16, 2026, a road construction accident occurred on US-190 East. A very large pavement excavator turned over and struck a worker knocking him out and unresponsive. Radio traffic from the Polk County Sheriff's Office Dispatch initially reported that the worker appeared to not be breathing and unresponsive. EMS personnel from Allegiance Ambulance Service arrived and managed to revive the worker (worker's name not yet released). State Troopers, Sheriff's Deputies, a Game Warden, the Alabama Coushatta Police and the Alabama Coushatta Fire Department were all on the scene. Deputy Dillon Dickerson with The Polk County Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. It appears that loose, deep gravel caused the top heavy piece of equipment to turn over. Additionally, a late model Ford pickup was damaged as the pickup was in the path of the equipment as it turned over. The worker was transported from the scene by ambulance to a nearby landing zone and flown. Traffic on 190 was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. PolkCountyToday.com will update this story as soon as more information is made available.
