About Us/Contact

I-Town

The SPCA of Polk County is in need of donations of pet food, both for current operations and to support the food assistance program for low income pet owners.  We are also seeking funds for equipment needed to house and provide living quarters for the animals in our care.  We have had several animals dumped at the office and really need the cooperation of the public in assuring that the animals we take in can receive adequate care.  Please, folks, contact us first to make sure that we are able to accept an animal before bringing it to the office.

We will try to work with as many residents as possible to re-home pets they may no longer be able to care for, however it is not fair to the animals to just dump them in a cage with no food or water.  Many animals left in this way are sick and need medical care which is another reason for our request for donations now; the ones who are sick and might recover with the care they need but our budget is tight also and we sometimes cannot afford what your little friend needs either.

It has become obvious that many Polk County residents are struggling with the temporary closure of the County animal facility, and, while a new, larger facility will eventually relieve this situation, our resources are limited and only so many  animals can be cared for by our volunteer staff. We have recently acquired a few outdoor pens for the dogs that are still awaiting homes and are full to the rafters with small dogs and kitties inside. While this provides a safe place for a lucky few animals, we daily turn away call after call from citizens trying desperately to find a place for litters of puppies and kittens, grandma's dog or a family friend whom they can't afford anymore.  While we wish we could provide more space and more care, we too must work within our present limitations until our facility can grow and the County's new facility is built. If you could help by volunteering to walk and feed dogs, clean equipment or run a couple loads of pet bedding laundry for us PLEASE call to work out  schedule.
