PETERSON BOYS CONNECT ON POLK COUNTY SPRING TURKEY TROPHY Jack Peterson and his brother Ken spent a couple April weekends in Polk County during Spring turkey hunting season. They started each day well before dawn, listening for East Texas gobblers to sound off with love sick gobbles and then they moved in on them. Using Jack’s skillful slate calling of yelps, purrs, and clucks, they seduced several big gobblers into gun range the first two weekends of the season, but didn’t “close the deal” until the third weekend. Ken finally harvested this 22 lb. “thunder chicken” on Saturday morning, April 16th at 50 steps with his trusty 12 gauge pump shotgun. It had an 11 ½” beard, and spurs were 1 and 3/8” long. “My brother Jack is a turkey calling ninja” said a proud brother Ken (on right in second photo). “Jack (pictured holding gobbler’s beard) can flat out speak their language!”.
