Car Fire on 146 South Doused by Big Thicket Firemen, SOUTH POLK COUNTY, April 2, 2008 - A 1994 Isuzu Trooper driven by Kimberly Harless, 16, of Rye, Texas caught fire on Highway 146 South just a few miles North of Big Thicket Lake Estates.  According to Harless and her passenger friend Keela Lee, 17, also of Rye, at 10 pm on April 2, 2008 as they were driving south on 146 they saw sparks coming from under the hood of the vehicle so Harless pulled over and called her mother and her mother, in turn, called 911 and Big Thicket Volunteer Fire Department came to the scene.  The vehicle's entire engine compartment was engulfed in flames when BTVFD arrived to extinguish the flame.  One lane of traffic was blocked as Polk County Deputy James Buie directed traffice while DPS Trooper Glen Goodwin investigated.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt.  Harless had insurance.
